Find Success through Self-Discipline
Ask any successful business owner, marathon runner, or sales person - "what is the secret to success?", and 99 out of 100 will say, "self-discipline". Self-control develops and self-esteem grows as self-disapline is achieved. Above average achievers are successful because they have developed the habit of self-discipline. It is essential for a person to be disciplined if success is the ultimate goal.
Unfortunately, the average person is not born with self-discipline, but wouldn't it be great if we were. It is a habit that must be learned and practiced daily. Developing the habit of self-discipline is not easy. It takes hard work, consistency, and sacrifice, but personal achievement can make it all worthwhile.
To develop the habit of self-discipline you must ask this question, "what do I want out of life?" Making a list of the things you want to accomplish will help you determine where you want to go and where you need to start. Begin by thinking, really thinking, about what is important to you. Take a walk alone or sit in solitude for 30 minutes and just think. Once you have come up with a clear picture, make your list. The next step is goal setting. Goals should be set daily. They drive focus and are mandatory for success. In a spiral notebook, list ten goals you wish to accomplish in the next year. Goals should be written as if they have already been achieved, in the present tense, with "I + an action verb". A goal for runner striving to finish a marathon might be, "I run 26.2 miles". A goal for a sales person determined to increase his monthly income might be, "I earn $10,000 per month". Rewrite your goals every morning before you start your day. Do this every day for one month and you will be well on your way to achieving self-discipline. Hard work, persistence and time management skills are good practices that will aid you in your quest for self-discipline. Concentrate on your goals, work hard and success will come to you.
Many businesses are run by family members or by partners. Situations happen because of the very nature of business, greed and envy. You can't lose sight of your interests, and you can't become overly involved in protecting someone else's interests unless your involvement will cause you no harm. After all you are the center of your universe not only in your personal life but in your business life.
